A Brief History of A.C.T. Lighting

In early 1993, David Leggett, the Managing Director of A.C. Lighting Ltd., called Bob Gordon in Los Angeles to arrange a meeting.  At that meeting in the Delta Crown Room at LAX they agreed to explore the creation of A.C. Lighting, Inc.. Bob came up with a business plan and A.C. Lighting, Inc. opened for business on July 1, 1993. A.C. Lighting, Inc. started out with no customers (just Bob's data base) and one North American exclusive product.

That product was the Jands range of control consoles made in Australia. The following 3 years saw, not only steady growth in sales, but the addition of 3 major exclusive products for the North American market. Looking back, those products had quite an effect on the market.

The first was Flying Pig Systems and the revolutionary Wholehog lighting control system, next came the WYSIWYG CAD and visualization system, and finally, Chroma-Q the first truly mass-produced color changer.

A.C. Lighting, Inc. became known for it's ability to find important products for the lighting industry.  In 1996, A.C. Lighting, Inc. added pre-made cable assemblies, as well as raw cable and connectors, to it's line card and quickly became one of the leading forces in this important area.

M.A. Lighting and A.C. Lighting, Inc. came to an agreement for the distribution of M.A.'s range, including the grandMA lighting control system, in 1999.  That same year, A.C. took on the distribution of both Selecon, from New Zealand and Zero 88 from the UK.

In August of 2000, Bob acquired the controlling shareholding of A.C. Lighting, Inc. and over saw a period of rapid grown in terms of staff and service as well as sales. With the success of the grandMA and Frog range of consoles the company was becoming known for achievements independent of their former ownership.

In early 2002 an ongoing relationship with UK manufacturer, Artistic Licence, was formalized with a North American distribution agreement. This agreement added a highly respected range of DMX, Ethernet and show control products to the A.C. Lighting portfolio.

On July 1 2002, exactly 9 years after the formation of A.C. Lighting, Inc. their name changed to A.C.T Lighting, Inc. This change in name did not represent any change in the way the business is run or in the ownership of the company, but rather as recognition of the separate and distinct identity now held in the U.S. Market.

The name and the control has shifted, but the mission is still the same:  To identify the future trends and products that will define the "cutting edge", stock them, sell them and support them.
